Profile of Neil Peart, Rush Drummer Who Died

Neil Peart, drummer for Rush, died at the age of 67. Quoted from the Associated Press, the announcement that Neil Peart died was uploaded via the band's Twitter.

"With a broken heart and deep sadness, we must announce the departure of our friends, relatives, and our bandmates for 45 years Neil Peart," Rush wrote.

In addition to drummer, Peart is also talented to be a songwriter for Rush. Following is the profile of Rush, whose departure leaves a daughter Olivia Louise Peart and his wife.

1. Born and formed Rush

Neil Peart was born on September 12, 1952 in Ontario, Canada. When Rush was formed in 1968, Neil Peart did not immediately join as a drummer . Rush's early members were Alex Lifeson, Jeff Jones as bassist, and John Rutsey on drums.

In 1974, Neil Part joined Rush to replace Rutsey a few weeks before the first American tour. Rush's first album with Peart, who became the band's main songwriter, was Fly by Night which won a Platinum record in 1975.

2. 100 of the best drummers and Hall of Fame

Neil Peart was ranked fourth in the 100 Best Drummers of All Time from Rolling Stone . The three best drummers before were Ginger Baker, Keith Moon, and John Bonham.

Besides being 100Best drummer , Neil Peart with Geddy Lee and Lifeson won an award at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. Rush is grateful for the award, although it is not something important.

"We always say this is not something important, but fans are very concerned about validation like this. Validation of favorite bands, just like in sports, is then celebrated as champions," said Neil Peart.

3. Other achievements with Rush

Neil Peart gained many achievements as individuals and with Rush. The second album released in 1975 Caress of Steel won a gold record.

Furthermore, the album Chronicles in 1990 won a double platinum record. In total, as many as 11 other albums from Rush won a platinum certificate and 10 albums got gold.

4. Brain cancer and grief from fellow musicians and artists

According to the announcement posted by Rush, Neil Peart died after battling brain cancer . Neil Peart has struggled 3.5 years and through a 45-year musical career. In 2015, Neil Peart announced his retirement from the tour.

A number of artists and musicians expressed sorrow over the death of Neil Peart. For example Jack Black and Metallica frontman Lars Ulrich uploaded via Twitter.

"The master has passed away. RIP Neil Peart # RushForever," wrote Jack Black.

"Thank you for the inspiration and all the help and advice that has been given, especially in the early days of being a drummer . Neil Peart did not hesitate to talk to me who was young from Denmark about recordings, equipment, and possibilities in the future. Thank you for the enthusiasm , your principles and your dedication to music! Rest in peace, "wrote Lars Ulrich.
